The Mission trip to Costa Rica had two main aspects besides preaching the gospel. The first was to assist working on a retreat center for ministers who need a time of rest and prayer. The local ministry has the heart to serve those who labor for the Lord. The second objective of our trip was to a little island that had no water well, electricity, or bathrooms.
While there, a well was dug and a tower with a 300-gallon tank that would have water pumped was built. This allowed them to have water on demand. A small solar system was also installed and for the first time, the church area had the first electricity anywhere on the island. This was a great encouragement to the pastor, whose first words when we turned the lights on were, "now I can read my Bible at night!" It is times like these when all the work, prayer and time away from family is little compared to the glory God receives and encouragement other servants receive.
